The packaging decision — road case specification, panel-per-case count, truck-pack efficiency — determines whether your panels arrive flat, calibrated, and ready to build, or arrive with damaged corners, shifted modules, and an hour of touch-up work before the show. This guide covers what rental companies actually need from packaging.
- Carton packing is for one-time delivery. Flight cases are for touring. If your panels do 40+ shows a year, ATA-spec butterfly-opening road cases with foam-cut interiors are the minimum — not optional.
- Panel-per-case count is a trade-off between handling weight and truck-pack efficiency. For 500×500mm cabinets, 6 panels per case is the sweet spot — Matrix indoor lands ~44–52 kg loaded; Lite 500 lands ~40–47 kg. Eight panels makes the case too heavy for a single crew member to move.
- Truck-pack planning happens before you order panels — not after. The case dimensions, the truck internal dimensions, and the show-day load order all affect how fast a crew can unload and build.

Flight Cases vs Carton Packing: The Real Difference on Tour
Carton packing works for one journey — factory to site. A forklift unloads the pallet, the crew unpacks the panels, and the cartons go into recycling. One trip. One assembly. For permanent installations, this is fine.
Udlejning LED display panels do not have one journey. They travel from the warehouse to the venue, back to the warehouse, and to the next venue — 30, 40, 80 times a year. A carton box holding a 7kg aluminium panel with 250×250mm glass-fronted LED modules is not road-ready. It provides zero impact protection after the first trip. The corner of a carton box compresses. The panel inside takes the hit.
ATA-spec flight cases with butterfly-opening lids, foam-cut interiors, recessed castors, and stacking corners are the minimum for touring. They represent a cost — typically 8–15% of the total panel order value — but they prevent panel damage that costs more than the cases over a single touring season.
A single damaged corner on a rental panel means that panel cannot align flush with adjacent panels. A 200sqm wall with 5 visibly misaligned panels looks unprofessional from the audience. The cost of those 5 replaced panels — plus the freight, plus the lost rental income while waiting for replacements — exceeds the cost of flight cases for the entire order. Spend on cases upfront. Save on panels later.
Panel-Per-Case Count: Finding the Sweet Spot Between Weight and Efficiency
The standard flight case for 500×500mm udlejning LED display panels holds 6 panels. This is not arbitrary — it is the result of a real-world trade-off between loaded case weight, handling speed, and truck-pack geometry.
- Loaded case weight: ~65kg (Matrix 500 indoor P2.6)
- Cannot safely be lifted by a single crew member
- Requires lift gate for every truck unload — adds setup time
- Dense packing = less air circulation = condensation risk in humid venues
- Verdict: Too heavy. Avoid unless the crew always has forklift access.
- Loaded case weight: ~44–52 kg (Matrix 500 indoor) / ~40–47 kg (Lite 500)
- Single crew member can tilt and roll on castors
- Two crew members can lift cases onto a truck deck without lift gate for small setups

X-1000 loaded cases at ~128kg and Flex at ~139kg require a forklift, lift gate, or four-person crew at every load-in. This is acceptable for arena and festival setups where heavy equipment handling is standard — but it is a genuine constraint for smaller crews in conference or church deployments. Factor this into your product choice, not just your transport plan.
Flight Case Features That Actually Matter for Touring
Not all flight cases are equal. Here is what separates a road-ready case from one that causes problems by show three.

Truck-Pack Planning: Know Your Volume Before You Order Panels
The rental company that plans truck-pack after ordering panels ends up paying for a second truck on every gig. Plan it before you order — or at least know the numbers so you can plan your fleet.

100 square metres of rental LED roughly fits into a single rigid truck — including cases for the panels, processor rack, cabling, rigging hardware, and spare parts. Cross this threshold and you need a second truck. Plan accordingly.
Accessories: What Belongs in Which Case (And What Does Not)
A well-packed tour has dedicated cases for each accessory category — not a “miscellaneous” case that becomes a disaster on show day.
Indeholder: Panels only. Foam-cut slots. One case type per truck load. No accessories mixed in.
Hvorfor: Mixed cases slow down panel access. A crew member pulling panels should not be digging past cable bundles.
Indeholder: Signal cables, power cables, cable ties, cable ramps, spare connectors. Labelled by type and length.
Hvorfor: Cable trunks roll to the build area first. Cables come out, run, and connect before the panels arrive at the wall.

Every rental order ships with: flight cases with foam-cut interior (butterfly type), hanging bars, stacking brackets, bridge connectors, footer plates, signal cables, power cables, suction tool, spare parts kit (receiver cards, pixel masks, power supply module, diagnostic cables). You unpack the cases, connect the panels, load the config file, and the wall is ready.
Case Maintenance: The Five-Minute Check That Prevents Panel Damage
Flight cases take abuse too. Latches loosen. Castor bearings wear. Foam compresses over time. A damaged case no longer protects its panels — and crew members do not notice the case degradation until a panel comes out with a chipped corner.
- Latches open/close smoothly, spring returns fully
- Castors spin freely, no wobble
- Stacking corners not bent or cracked
- Exterior labels still legible
- 5 minutes. Do it during truck loading for the next gig.
- Foam compression: panels should slide in with gentle pressure, not be forced
- Hinge pins: no play, no rust
- Rubber seal on lid (if weather-sealed case): intact, no cracks
- 15 minutes for the full case fleet.
- Foam cut slot no longer grips the panel — panel rattles during transport
- Castor bearing seized — case dragged instead of rolled
- Lid latch fails to secure — case opens in transit
- One damaged case damages every panel inside it. Replace it before a panel gets hurt.
